NDIS physio price limit per hour

The short answer

Under the NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27, the national price limit for physiotherapy is $183.99 per hour, unchanged from 2025-26 and effective from 1 July 2026. The remote limit is $257.59 and the very remote limit is $275.99 per hour. These are maximums for agency-managed and plan-managed participants, and providers may charge less.

How the limit applies

The National Disability Insurance Agency sets a maximum price for each support item in its annual pricing document, renamed the NDIS Pricing Schedule for 2026-27. Physiotherapy is a therapy support, usually funded in the improved daily living budget. Providers cannot charge agency-managed or plan-managed participants above the limit, and plan managers will reject claims that exceed it. Self-managed participants can agree to any price, although the limit is a common benchmark. The rate covers physiotherapists; services by a therapy assistant have their own lower limits. Your service agreement should list the hourly rate, item numbers and how travel and cancellations are billed. A price above the limit is a compliance breach for registered providers.

What happened to the physio rate

Physiotherapy was reduced from $193.99 to $183.99 per hour on 1 July 2025 following the NDIA's annual pricing review, which also ended the higher limits that had applied in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia and Tasmania. The 2026-27 review held the rate at $183.99 rather than restoring it, while psychology rose and dietetics and exercise physiology fell. The Australian Physiotherapy Association continues to argue the rate does not reflect delivery costs. Providers should model their costs against the current limit and consider mixed delivery, including telehealth and assistant-supported programs where clinically appropriate. Any change to the limit normally takes effect on 1 July after the annual review, so build a review date into service agreements.

Remote and very remote areas

Loadings apply where the participant is in a remote or very remote area under the Modified Monash Model, classifications MM6 and MM7. For physiotherapy in 2026-27 the remote limit is $257.59 per hour and the very remote limit is $275.99 per hour. The loading depends on where the service is delivered to the participant, not the provider's office. Travel to these areas can be significant, so agree travel arrangements in writing before the first visit. Providers delivering to regional communities on a rotating basis should check the schedule for how travel between multiple participants is apportioned.

Travel, reports and non-face-to-face time

For 2026-27 each therapy discipline has six line items: direct service, cancellation, non-face-to-face, provider travel, NDIA requested reports and telehealth. Provider travel is now priced at a percentage of the direct service rate, subject to time limits that vary by location. NDIA requested reports, such as functional capacity assessments the agency asks for at plan reassessment, are claimed at the direct service rate. Non-face-to-face work like program design and progress notes for the participant can be claimed when it is agreed in advance and directly related to their supports.
