Can I charge a gap fee under the NDIS?
No. Registered providers must not add a gap fee, credit card surcharge or any other extra charge on top of the price limit for an NDIS support. You also cannot claim from a participant's plan and separately charge them out of pocket for the same support. Price limits are maximums, not a base you can add to.

The rule in plain English
Registered providers must not add other charges, such as gap fees or surcharges, to the cost of the supports they provide. The price limit in the NDIS Pricing Schedule is the most you can charge for that support. Plan managers are also not able to process invoices above the price limit.
What you can and cannot do
You cannot double charge by claiming from the plan and also billing the participant for the same support, and you cannot pass on transaction or administration fees for an NDIS support. You can charge for genuinely separate services that are not funded by the NDIS, as long as this is clear, agreed in writing and not a disguised top up.
Why it matters
Charging a gap fee for a funded support can breach the NDIS Code of Conduct and provider obligations, and may be reported to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Clear pricing protects the participant and your registration. If a participant asks for something outside their plan, explain the options rather than adding a fee to a funded support.
