The Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, in plain English
The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards set out what good, safe aged care looks like. There are seven standards, and they apply from 1 November 2025 under the Aged Care Act 2024. They replace the previous standards with a clearer, more person-centred structure.

The seven standards
The seven standards are: the Individual, the Organisation, Care and Services, the Environment, Clinical Care, Food and Nutrition, and the Residential Community. Clinical care and food and nutrition are now dedicated standards, reflecting a stronger focus on both areas.
How each standard is structured
Each standard includes a statement of its intent, an expectation statement written from the perspective of the older person, and a set of outcomes and actions that providers must meet. This structure is designed to make expectations clearer and easier to measure.
Who they apply to
The standards apply to registered providers. The specific requirements depend on the services a provider delivers and its registration category, so not every standard applies to every provider in the same way. Providers should map the standards that apply to them based on their registration and the types of care they provide.
